Table for one, please

Hello, Smiling Faces!Table for one, please. Do you fret those words? Well, I can tell you I've been in your shoes. Let's take a few steps back. If you are new to following my blog this week, I am sharing four ideas in February, focusing on Self-Love.  On last week, it was all about Fresh Flowers and not waiting to be gifted your favorite bouquet. This week, Idea #2 is the enjoyment of dining alone. Truth to be told, I was not one of them. Dining alone was not an option....many years ago. I did not want the "stigma" of being sad or lonely. So, they say. (side-eye) I had all those myths running through my mind and I wasn't going to be caught in that situation.Fast forward many years later, and it is the most pleasurable experience ever! I enjoy the opportunity to partake in my meal without the conversations or pause breaks in the middle of that scrumptious bite! The best company you can keep, is your own. Statistics shows that single table reservations have gone up 62 percent in the last couple of years. Yes, I  have contributed to that number! Do you enjoy eating alone? Spending time alone can truly allow for therapeutic, creativity of the mind and getting to know yourself more. Quiet time is the perfect time to get in tuned with you. What are your personal strengths or weaknesses? What makes you joyful? Some time alone, allows for you to unwind and focus on you.  I travel frequently for work and enjoy partaking in a new, local restaurant for some alone time, or a simple lunch or dinner here in my city. This local restaurant here; Cafe Palladio, is located inside of Palladio Antiques in Midtown Memphis. It is one of my favorite, quiet lunchtime places to eat. My normal dish is the 1/2 Chunky Chicken Salad and 1/2 Pear & Walnut Salad. Delicious!Of course, I thoroughly enjoy dining with family and friends, but sometimes you need to enjoy you. It's nothing like enjoying every bite of your meal, at your own pace. No distractions or small talk....but sometimes you may see a journal close by!Here are a few tips to dining alone:

  1. Arrive Early. This will allow for you to possibly choose a quiet area, away from heavy crowds. This can make your first experience a little intimidating.
  2. Carry a small journal or book. Sometimes, you may feel the "people pressure" and can avoid staring at those around you.
  3. Enjoy the Experience. Do not worry about who may be looking at you. Enjoy the atmosphere and welcome a new experience.

My challenge to you this week, is to try dining alone.  If you aren't new to this, explore a different restaurant and enjoy YOU! Let me know your thoughts. I may just be one seat over. Until next time!Always SMILE...Sherill
